We have just received the first containers of the new crop South African WP Sultana’s in our warehouse. WP stands for Western Provence which is the growing area of this grape in South Africa.
The quality of the WP Sultana’s is excellent this year and they are a very similar colour to the Turkish Nr 9. So it is a very nice light colour. The product we have received is a medium size (280 plus berries per 100 gram) and is ideal for mixes and bakeries.
Taste-wise, the WP sultana is more flavourful, compared to sultanas from other origins. So if you want to use the product as an ingredient or in a mix, less product can be used and you still get the same sultana flavour in the end product.
Another advantage due to the favorable climate in South Africa, is that during the cultivation of the sultana, almost no pesticides are being used. An issue that is getting more and more important for consumers because they want their products as natural as possible.
And the best news…. prices are very competitive compared to other origins!
