The new crop of Chilean prunes has just started. For this season exporters expecting between 55,000-50,000 mt, which is similar to the 2020 harvest. The difference this time is that there won’t be a carryover, which historically has been between 10,000-15,000 mt.
Regarding the size, exporters expecting similar sizes as last year, with a good availability of medium and large sizes and a limited availability of small sizes. If you’re looking for Eliot pitted or other small sizes, we recommended to close your contracts early in the season.
Although it’s too early to announce prices for the new crop, the opening prices will be significantly higher than the opening prices for the 2020 crop. Due to a very limited of small sizes, we’ve already seen high prices in the last couple of months for small sizes.
